The 2007 shipping report indicates a growth in total shipping traffic and a shift toward Southeast Asia that makes reusable plastic packaging ideal. The Institute's finding of a 14 percent increase in the number of empty containers sent from the United States between 2001 and 2006 signals a difficult future for international shippers and the need to save money on return trips by using stackable, nestable pallets, dunnage, and collapsible containers.
